Integration Test Process Summary
April 3, 2012Test Planning
Test Planning begins once scope closure has occurred and the list of projects is identified for which IT will be performing integration test. The final deliverable from test planning will be a detailed Integration Test Plan which is the overarching document IT produces to govern the conduct of the integration test. The Integration Test Plan identifies personnel roles, responsibilities, and procedures, as well as project-specific information including:
- Integration test requirements,
- Test approach,
- Assumptions/risks
- System interfaces,
- Integration test cases,
- Test calls, and
- Detailed data feed matrix.
Test Strategy Sessions are held early in the Test Planning phase for gathering and introducing the Integration Test Team, and opening a dialogue on how IT plans to conduct the integration test. The purpose of the meeting is to:
- Review the structure of the IT Plan,
- Explain roles and responsibilities,
- Outline a general integration test approach that will satisfy the project requirements,
- Brief the project schedule and identify any discrepancies with individual systems,
- Identify system points of contacts to assist the IT Test Lead in test case generation
- Identify risks and issues,
- Establish a schedule to review test cases, and
- Discuss the test environments for participating systems
Just prior to the start of IT execution, a Test Readiness Review will be conducted to review the IT release integration test schedule, review the test cases matrices with the Integration Test Team, system test organizations, and development teams prior to order entry, and determine whether the project is ready for integration test execution by ensuring IT entrance and exit criteria has been met.
