HP 10.20 OS Install – Setup 700 series (B132’s)

Always verify and adapt these recommendations for the OS Install.

HP 10.20 OS Install – Setup 700 series (B132’s)

1.      Insert HP-UX 10.20 Install and Core OS into the CD ROM drive.

2.      Reboot the machine with sync;reboot

3.      Press any key to interrupt the boot process

4.      Enter the following:   sea

5.      Enter the following:          boot P0

6.      Choose N to not interact with IPL.

7.      Enter 45 (for US english)

8.      Press return and return again

9.      Highlight “Install HP-UX”

10.  Press enter

11.  Choose Yes to set up Networking

12.  Press enter

13.  Hit ctrl-c to stop the DHCP search

14.  Enter the machine’s hostname (Not the fully qualified hostname.  “newhost”  not “Newhost.newhost.com”)

15.  Enter the IP address of the OUTSIDE interface

16.  Enter the IP of the Router

17.  Enter the correct netmask

18.  This information is NOT temporary, choose no.

19.  Tab to OK, press return.

20.  Choose Standard LVM configuration, press return

21.  Change Primary Swap to 256 (highlight, press return, down arrow, return)

22.  Tab to OK, press return.

23.  Tab to Modify FS parameters, press enter.

24.  Change the configuration to the following parameters.


NOTE:   This is done by highlighting the appropriate entry, pressing TAB to the “size” entry, deleting the old entry, entering the new value, pressing “TAB” to the modify option and hitting return.


/                      64 MB

/stand             128 MB

(swap)-           256 MB (this value should already be set)

/home             20 MB(this value should already be set)

/opt                 252 MB           (this value should already be set)

/tmp                64 MB

/usr                 500 MB

/var                 remaining free (>400 MB)


NOTE:  The filesystem can be fudged a little if there is a HUGE amount of disk space (4-8 Gig).  We would recommend upping the swap, stand and root if this is the case.


25.  Choose OK, press return

26.  Choose OK, press return

27.  Choose Continue, press return

28.  Wait for all the filesets to be installed (about an hour, depending on the speed of the system.) The machine should reboot itself.

29.  Click Yes

30.  Click Yes

31.  Click OK

32.  Click Yes

33.  Choose the proper timezone

34.  Follow the onscreen directions (yes, they do actually make sense)

35.  Set the root password (currently using $shadow$ as the password)

36.  Follow the onscreen directions

37.  Set the IP address information

38.  Follow the onscreen directions

39.  Choose Yes for Additional Network Parameters

40.  Enter the Subnet, Gateway and Hostname (NOT fully qualified)

41.  Choose OK

42.  Follow the onscreen directions

43.  Choose Yes for Additional Network Parameters- DNS

44.  Enter the DNS information (newhost.com – 10.99.200.51)

45.  Click OK then Yes then Close

46.  Click CANCEL on the NIS screen

47.  Choose no for font server setup

48.  Choose close

49.  Insert the Applications CD as it is rebooting

50.  Choose Command Line Login from the CDE login screen under Options.

51.  Login as root

52.  Type mount –o cdcase /dev/dsk/c12d0 /SD_CDROM

53.  Type sam

54.  Press Return until you see the sam screen pop up.  (If it is asking questions about term type, just press return.  The defaults will work fine)

55.  Choose “Software Management”

56.  Choose “Install Software to Localhost”

57.  The Specify source screen will appear, Tab to “OK” and press enter

58.  Choose OK on the popup screen

59.  Arrow down to the 100BT PCI drivers.  (They should be package #’s B5509BA and B5511BA)

60.  Press the spacebar to highlight them.

61.  Press ALT (which is the F2 key) +A

62.  Press m for  “mark for install”

63.  Press enter, and enter again

64.  Yes should appear in the “Marked” column

65.  Press ALT (which is the F2 key) +A

66.  Arrow down to Install (analysis) and press enter.

67.  Select OK, press enter

68.  Select Yes and Yes again.

69.  The “done” option will be available when the install is complete.  Select Done and press return.

70.  Select OK and press return. 

71.  The system should auto reboot at this time

72.  Choose Command Line Login from the CDE login screen under Options.

73.  Login as root

74.  Type lanscan

75.  You should see all of your installed interfaces.  If you do not, it’s because the incorrect package was installed.  Please do steps 47 to 67 again with the correct package.

76.  Congratulations, you must now configure your nic.  DO NOT USE the ifconfig command.

77.  Type sam, press return

78.  Press return

79.  Choose Networking and Communications

80.  Press enter

81.  Choose Network Interface Cards

82.  Press enter

83.  Choose your inside interface (it should not be configured)

84.  Press ALT (which is the F2 key) +A

85.  Choose Configure

86.  Enter the IP address, the alias (eg, griffey-internal.newhost.com), and the netmask for the interface.

87.  Choose OK

88.  Choose OK again.

89.  The configuration should appear on the screen

90.  Press F8 (exit)

91.  Press F8 (exit) again

92.  Use the ifconfig command to make sure the interface is up.

93.  Almost there…Stay on Target

94.  Insert the EXT SW (Extension Software) Disk in the CD-ROM

95.  Type sam and press return

96.  Press Return

97.  Choose Disks and Filesystems

98.  Choose Disk Devices

99.  Highlight the CD-ROM using the spacebar

100.          Press ALT (which is the F2 key) +A

101. an>         

Choose Add

102.          Choose Not Using the Logical Volume Manager

103.          Press return

104.          Type /SD_CDROM for the “mount directory”

105.          Un-check the “At every system boot” box

106.          Choose ‘OK”

107.          Press enter

108.          When it is done mounting, press F8

109.          Arrow up to “..go up”

110.          Press enter

111.          Choose Software Management

112.          Press Enter

113.          Arrow down to Install Software to Localhost

114.          Press Enter

115.          The Specify source screen will appear, Tab to the line that has /SD_CDROM in it.

116.          Change it to say /SD_CDROM/XSW700GR1020

117.          Tab to “OK” and press enter

118.           When the contents are displayed, highlight it (using the spacebar)

119.          Press F2 (alt) + a

120.          Press m (for mark for install)

121.          It should now say Yes in the Marked? Column.

122.          Press F2 (alt) + a

123.          Press I (for install)

124.          Choose OK

125.          Choose Yes

126.          Choose Yes

127.          Tab to “Done” when it becomes available.

128.          Press return

129.          Choose OK

130.          Choose OK again

131.          It should now auto-reboot.
