Integration Test Team Roles and Responsibilities
May 10, 2010The Integration Test Team consists of the IT Integration Test Lead, a System Integration Test Lead or Integration Test Point of Contact (POC) for each system participating in the integration test, and a Project Management point of contact.
The roles and responsibilities for the test team members to facilitate the completion of Integration Test activities are defined below.
IT Integration Test Lead
The IT Integration Test Lead will facilitate communication and activities necessary to develop, execute, and monitor an effective Integration Test Plan. During the Integration Test planning phase, the Integration Test Lead will focus on the development of an effective Integration Test Plan. To accomplish this, the Integration Test Lead must:
1. Identify project objectives and requirements,
2. Identify system interfaces,
3. Determine whether other systems are required to achieve an end-to-end test,
4. Develop an integration test schedule,
5. Identify integration test data requirements (customers and test cases), and
6. Identify and document risks with the test approach.
During Integration Test execution, the Integration Test Lead will monitor the progress of test execution by conduction daily or weekly status meetings. The focus of these meetings is to
1. Identify and resolve issues,
2. Track execution milestones against the test plan,
3. Collect, report and track Integration Discrepancy Reports,
4. Identify risks and report them as appropriate, and
5. Provide a project-wide forum of test related issues and questions.
The Integration Test Lead will ensure resolution of all open Integration Discrepancy Reports, conduct a post-implementation review among the Integration Test Team following completion of the integration test, and monitor production performance to capture reports of production problems.
System Integration Test Lead
The IT Integration Test Lead will request that each System Integration Test Lead provide input to the Integration Test Plan during the Integration Test planning phase. Deliverables will include, but will not be limited to:
1. New and changed system interfaces,
2. Data flows specific to the project,
3. Schedules for system test, integration test and implementation,
4. Test customer data that satisfy system level requirements,
5. Inputs to the datafeed matrix for upstream and downstream systems.
System Integration Test Leads will be required to participate in the weekly integration test team meetings to efficiently gather this information and discuss the overall integration test plan. Each System Integration Test Lead will contribute to the planning of the integration effort, production of testing documentation, review of design documentation in the area of interface specification and design documents supporting the interface specifications and the execution of defined test in accordance with the agreed schedules.
Additionally, the integration leads will be knowledgeable about the testing being done in the system test phase, will monitor the progress of system testing, will take part in hand-off meetings from system test, and will ensure exit criteria from system test has been met.
Project Management and Product Development Contacts
Project Management and Product Development contacts will, during all Integration Test phases, be responsible for:
1. Providing assistance in the identification of points of contact and system impacts,
2. Providing assistance in the escalation of resource and schedule issues,
3. Providing feedback on the
a) Requirements and test scenarios,
b) Test case coverage,
c) Risk assessments, and
d) Post implementation reviews.
